The VXI1553 module is a versatile, full-featured C-size VXIbus board designed for testing, simulation and monitoring MIL-STD-1553A/B avionics applications. Up to 8 independent, dual-redundant MIL-STD-1553A/B databus streams can be configured on a single 1553 board. Each dual-redundant MIL-STD-1553 interface can simultaneously simulate a Bus Controller (BC), up to 31 Remote Terminals (RTs). There are independent Bus Monitors (MT) for each of the eight buses.

The VXI1553 board utilizes a simple, reliable, high performance FPGA-based hardware architecture and the highest data throughput in the industry on a flexible platform that can be easily adapted to meet a wide range of application needs. The architecture features an onboard, 250 Mhz, PowerPC Application Processor that off-loads the host and supports time-critical user application functions and interrupt service routines. The VXI1553 board is configured with two 128 MBytes banks of onboard memory, providing ample capacity to support high volumes of data and complex simulations.

An onboard IRIG-B time code decoder and generator allows users to accurately synchronize single or multiple VXI1553 boards to a common time source.

The VXI1553 offers both software programmable transformer and direct coupling to the data buses and there is an optional -T version that provides an additional set of Twinax BNC stub connectors for compatibility with obsolete MIL-STD-1553 VXI products.

The VXI1553 is bundled with a VXI plug & play driver software developer’s package. Application software can access the VXI1553 board using AIT’s high-level application programmer’s interface supporting C/C++/C#, and LabVIEW/LabWindows development environments.

Compatibility Mode

The VXI1553 is a 100% form, fit and functional direct replacement product for the Tektronix 73A-455 and AIM AXI1553 VXI products enabling customers to continue building systems with minimal engineering impact. The VXI1553-T features a connector front panel including dual-redundant bus and stub twinax connectors. A compatibility level dll library is included to allow user applications to directly link their existing AXI1553 based C-library API code to run with the VXI1553. The benefits of the compatibility software plus the updated architecture will enable existing customers to maintain their test library with an architecture that will be supported for the next 10 years.
